Nervous about whether your corner Starbucks is still going to be there to deliver that jolt of caffeine?
It’s a fair question plenty of folks are asking after Starbucks Corp. announced that it would shut 616 company-owned stores by early 2009 as part of a broader plan to boost profit and traffic at its U.S. locations.

I attend a school in Jacksonville where, and I’m not kidding, there are five Starbucks within a one mile radius of the school. It’s a little insane and while it’s not cool that people are losing there jobs, I’m not surprised. Starbucks expanded at a ridiculous and greedy rate…

I heard that there’s over 11,000 Starbucks locations in the U.S., that’s an almost unimaginable number. Hopefully Starbucks’ fall will give rise to locally owned coffee shops.

To me, the popularity of Starbucks is evidence that we as a society have become very spoiled. We love luxury too much. Me, included. =( Looks like the current economic downturn is going to bring some of us to our senses. I guess we all needed a little reality check.
